Blog 3: The uri that they have is very unique. It seems fun and unifying of the community. I like the traditions they have, it brings the women together rather then not being able to do anything cause they are not manly. Some things they do similar are how they dress in there best clothes, meet the other family, and dance with each other. Other things they do different are that they bring wine for the bride price and the whole community is involved. Everyone helps and brings food at a regular wedding only close family comes and they don't prepare food they usually hire someone to cook food.
Blog 2: The Igbo culture show masculinity by showing no emotion but anger and to have great success. They also show masculinity by having more than one wife and planting yams. We show masculinity by working hard. Also men try to be stronger than women with emotion and not show it sometimes. For example men try not to cry at funerals and be there for their significant other. Although we do share some similarities in masculinity. We both believe that men are supposed to be the hard workers and not be as emotional as women.
The way the Igbo culture define women is disappointing. Women should be treated equal and not be down graded because they are the reason why we have more generations. (From having children.) One connection in my life to this novel is losing someone really close to me. It is similar to how Nwoye felt when he lost Ikemefuma. The song by Luther Vandross thats called Dance with my Father also reminds me of my life connection.
Blog 1: My first impressions of this novel is that it was going to be interesting. I like reading about other black cultures.These novel helps me learn how Igbo culture is and how they feel about it being disrespected. It also really emphasizes the characters feelings and brings them to life.They have very unique ways of life and how they should live. Some of the Igbo traditions are disgusting in my opinion, but others I think are FANTASTIC :)! In some ways the Igbo Tribe are the same and different. The things that they do differently may be very weird to us, like how they can have more than one wife or how they are allowed to abuse their family without getting in trouble. Some ways they are the same is how they have to work hard to be wealthy.
